About

A former soldier. The darling of Society. A dilemma of love and duty that will force them to overcome their doubts and fears to forge a new life together.

The moment Richard Ballard received the royal letter awarding him the title of Marquis of Evans for his bravery during the war, his life was irrevocably changed. The once simple life he led was now filled with pressure to earn the noble title he was granted. He has his sights set on the beautiful Lady Helena Gardiner, but does she desire him or just his title?

Lady Helena Gardiner is thrilled with Mr. Ballard's attention, but after he’s elevated to the rank of marquis, he suddenly leaves town. She must find a way to convince him she desires him, not his title. Will her heart survive if he no longer wants a life with her?

Can Richard and Helena move past their differences and embrace the passion that burns between them?

Praise for this book

5 stars Entitled for his bravery, Richard balances duty and love in order to make Lady Helena his bride. The Marquis Takes a Bride is a gem of a Regency romance from start to finish. This is book two in this series. I met both Richard and Lady Helena in book one. I was looking forward to this story and it didn’t disappoint. The romance between these two is fraught with uncertainty and misunderstandings. The characters are vibrant and expressive. The writing is sophisticated and historically accurate. The Marquis Takes a Bride is a delight for any Regency reader. I always enjoy reading Debra Elizabeth’s books. She injects historical detail and accuracy for the era while making sure to balance it with emotion. In The Marquis Takes a Bride, the emotional turmoil is high for Richard. He’s adjusting to being a marquis and all the rules of the gentry. There’s a nice balance of tension, action, and romance throughout this story. The characters are what drive this plot. I connected with Richard and Helena right away. They have a certain realistic quality which I found endearing. The rest of the characters add depth and tension. If you’re a Regency reader, I recommend The Marquis Takes a Bride to you. If you’re a romantic, like me, I know you’ll fall for Richard and Helena’s love story. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
